Laura Ballesteros Mancilla is the Mexico in-country coordinator for the road safety program. She provides strategic guidance to various civil society groups to inform and implement the Road Safety program in Mexico. She is an expert in advocacy, policy and regulation in road safety, mobility and urban affairs. As a former Congresswoman in Mexico City’s Local Assembly between 2012-2015, she passed the new Mobility Law, thereby establishing mobility and road safety as top priority for public planning and for the budget. From 2015-2018 Laura worked in Mexico City as Undersecretary of Planning in the Ministry of Mobility of Mexico City. As part of a collective effort with civil society, Mexico City’s Road Safety policy adopted the “Visión Cero” philosophy, which led to a 35% decrease of road fatalities. Currently, Laura is a substitute Senator for the period 2018–2024.
