The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) is seeking research proposals to evaluate the Trans-Fatty Acids (TFA) Incubation Advocacy Project. The evaluation aims to assess the effectiveness, reach and impact of the project. The application will be open until August 12, 2024.

GHAI is currently working in collaboration with Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) Cardiovascular Health (CVH) Initiative towards the goal of saving 100 million lives. As part of these efforts GHAI is tasked with leading policy advocacy campaigns to eliminate TFA from the food supply, reduce sodium intake and improve hypertension screening and treatment. In just a little over five years of the initiative, GHAI has succeeded in passing seven evidence-based best practice iTFA elimination policies across the world.

As we continue to expand our work around the world, GHAI conducted a new advocacy TFA Incubation Project. As part of this project, we engaged five organizations across Africa (i.e., Botswana, Gambia, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe). The primary objective of this project was to support advocacy efforts for the adoption and successful implementation of the World Health Organization (WHO) best-practice industrially iTFA elimination policies in African countries.

The project was designed to be a collaborative effort to empower civil society organizations (CSOs) and academics through knowledge sharing, community of practice and strengthening advocacy efforts to drive meaningful policy change and improve public health by reducing harmful iTFA consumption in Africa. The five countries participated in different sessions including three training modules on the successful institutional advocacy model developed by GHAI to enhance their advocacy efforts.

The selected consultant or institution will be responsible for:

  • Designing the evaluation framework, methodology, data collection tools, and timeline.
  • Conducting desk reviews, key informant structured interviews, surveys, focus group discussions and/or document analysis as per the evaluation plan to be proposed.
  • Analyzing data, synthesizing findings, and preparing a report including a set of recommendations for GHAI and partners on next steps and areas of improvement.
  • Presenting findings to project stakeholders as required.

The list of criteria and full details of the call for proposals can be found in the RFP.
